We often have to deal with the requirement of various authorities and business structures to provide translation of documents. In such cases, we need to understand which type of service to choose and which aspects to pay special attention to. In most cases, a foreign trade contract or scientific and technical documentation requires a certified translation.
Notarised translations and certified translations are not synonymous notions. In case of a notarised translation, the translator’s signature is certified by a notary, but a certified translation usually includes the seal of the Translation Agency. As in the case of a notarised translation, certified translation has legal force and is executed with the corporate seal and signature of the translator.
The need to certify a translation may arise when a translated document needs to be made official, for example, for submission to state authorities and institutions, embassies and consulates, companies and organizations of various forms of ownership both in Ukraine and abroad.
WIS Translation Agency provides services of notarized translation and translation certified with translation agency’s stamp for individuals and legal entities. These documents mainly include documents confirming the level of education and qualification (certificates, diplomas of education), making the transactions (agreements, contracts, additional agreement to them, etc.), one-time, special, general and trust powers of attorney; certificates of quality and origin of products, financial and accounting statements, personal documents of citizens (passports, pension and driving licenses, work certificates and statements of residence, work record books, documents issued by utility service providers and registry offices, etc.).
Two types of translation certification are possible:
- Notary certification of translation.
- Certification of translation with the seal of the Translation Agency.
To make the translation official, the following is required:
- an original or a copy of the document;
- properly executed translation;
- a certifying endorsement, which includes the translator’s and notary’s signature with the seal – for notary certification; or a certifying endorsement of a translation agency on the translated document signed by the translator, together with the seal or stamp.
Both in case of notarisation and when affixing the translation agency’s stamp and seal, the presence of a specialist who has performed the translation is a mandatory requirement.
We recommend to check the original for errors as far as possible before placing an order, and only after making sure that all the data is correct to transfer it to the work. We also ask our clients to specify the correct spelling of names and surnames. Depending on the target language, they must match the spelling in the passport or other identity documents.
The standard time frame for a certified translation is 1-3 working days, and the minimum cost is from UAH 80.00 per original document.
